Directing

Feature 1 / Shorts 8 / Videos

Films made fast, with friends, close to the bone. Comedy and grief in the same frame. Young people under pressure, told through bodies as much as words, and shot with the care of something much bigger.

“The directing is very strong. There’s a real confidence and creativity in camera placement, composition and angle choices. The compositions are very strong. Starting out, I always felt challenged by group scenes – am I supposed to be close, wide, how does the master shot work? Jamie’s way beyond where I was on my first couple of films.”

James Cameron on Flatters

Eight young soldiers stationed in the Scottish Highlands watch for an invasion. What they find becomes a struggle inside their own heads.

How I workProcess
  1. Treatment first.Every project starts as a written story: beats, references, a world. Collaborators see the film before a camera comes out.
  2. Small crew, real trust. Most of the work is made with the same circle of friends and collaborators, built up since 2017 through Our Second Cousin.
  3. Performance at the centre. An actor directing actors. Rehearsal, movement and stunt work shape the shoot as much as the shot list.
  4. Camera always rolling.Behind-the-scenes is part of the work. The making-of often becomes a film of its own.
